Stellar perturbations of the cometary cloudThe paper demonstrates that the Oort cloud radius is 100,000 AU, the mean 'thermal' velocity in the cloud is about 110 m/s, and the resulting perihelion distribution in the planetary region is uniform with the number based on the radius of the circle within which the comets are falling. Stars passing through the Oort cloud during the history of the solar system have ejcted a minimum of the initial population and randomized the orbits of the remaining comets leaving little record of their initial state.
