On the algebraic geometry of the output feedback pole placement mapPole placement by output feedback is based on a concept that a transfer function can be considered as a curve in a Grassmanian manifold, so that pole placement consists of finding a special hypersurface in the manifold which intersects the curve at a prescribed set of points. An equation is derived for the number of different gains which yield the same set of poles in the case where the number of output feedback gains equals the number of poles of the system.
