Historical development of flutterA historical survey of aeroelasticity, and in particular flutter, is given. The instances in which aeroelasticity played a major role in aircraft failure are detailed, and developments taking flutter into account from the days of the early aviation pioneers up to their successors in the 1950's are reviewed. Aerodynamic theories analyzing flutter are also discussed.
