Software cost/resource modelingThe Putnam method for planning the time/work effort component of software development is evaluated. This software costing model, based on Norden-Rayleigh product life cycle concepts, was applied to four development projects. The time/effort tradeoff leading to savings attainable when development time on a project is extended by a few months is demonstrated. The software equation which relates the principal parameters of development time, total effort, system size, and the development environment is presented.
