Galileo spacecraft pointing accuracy analysisThis paper describes the analysis required to evaluate the pointing performance of the Galileo spacecraft science instruments and antenna. The main contribution lies in the development of the models needed for pointing analysis. Pointing control mechanisms of the science instruments, as well as the spacecraft autonomous attitude determination process and the pointing control mechanisms for the high gain antenna, are provided in order to identify the various error sources involved. A covariance analysis method is then used to obtain the pointing capabilities of the instruments and the antenna. The results are depicted in tabular form to compare the capabilities against the levied requirements.
