Remote sensing of temperature profiles in the atmosphereMethods of regularized and generalized cross validation can be used to estimate the atmosphere's temperature, moisture, and wind structure from a finite number m noisy measurements by meteorological satellites on the intensity of upwelling radiation in selected channel frequencies. The inversion of the equation of radiative transfer is discussed for data obtained by TIROS N satellite.
