Combined spaceborne and conventional measurements for precipitation estimationIn order to overcome the limitations of both IR/visible and microwave radiometer based techniques, a "hybrid' scheme is suggested whose accuracy is investigated using radar based simulations. Such a scheme could potentially combine the high temporal resolution of the vis/IR imagery with the anticipated rain rate estimating ability of the next generation of satelliteborne microwave radiometers.
