Transverse flat-plate heat pipe experiment (S1005)The objective of this experiment is to evaluate the zero-g performance of a number of transverse flat plate heat pipe modules. Performance will include the transport capability of the pipes, the temperature drop, and the ability to maintain temperature over varying duty cycles and environments. Additionally, performance degradation, if any, will be monitored over the length of the Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) mission. This information is necessary if heat pipes are to be considered for system designs where they offer benefits not available with other thermal control techniques.
