Self-shadowing effects on the thermal-structural response of orbiting trussesAn investigation of self-shadowing effects on the thermal-structural response of orbiting trusses is described. The shadowing, heating, thermal and structural analyses are summarized. The significance of shadowing on the thermal-structural behavior of a single member and a beam constructed from truss members is described. For the trusses considered, the study shows that member self-shadowing effects significantly alter the behavior and must be included to predict the thermal-structural response correctly.
