Geopotential Research Mission (GRM)Two spacecraft, one following the other with a separation of a few hundred kilometers and orbiting at an altitude of 160 kilometers in a 90-degree polar orbit, are used to detect the minute variations in the earth's gravitational field. One spacecraft, equipped with magnetometers, will measure the vector and scalar components of the earth's magnetic field. The scientific data obtained will provide an order-of-magnitude increase beyond the present knowledge of the earth's gravitational and magnetic fields.
