Measurement Requirements for the Detection of Ozone Trends

The number of measurements and period of collection in order to detect a trend in the vertical distribution of ozone was studied. Specific issues considered include the impact of: (1) short term ozone variability over the measurement site, and (2) the precision of the measuring instrument on the ability to detect trends to a given confidence limit.
