Problems and procedures of cometary astometryPhotography of comets or asteroids for the purpose of astrometry requires consideration of a few details not met with in other astronomical problems. In the general case the object has a substantial non-sidereal motion and the decision must be made whether to track on the fiducial stars or on the object. The best method for introducing the required image motion compensation to the detector will depend on the focal plane facilities. Measurement of elongated images and the problems involved are discussed.
