Thermocapillary Motion ResearchFundamental microgravity research on interfacial surface tension driven motion by a linear temperature gradient was conducted. A vertical linear temperature gradient will be established within a test container filled with a host fluid. The thermal gradient will be positive in the upward vertical direction to avoid any free convective currents. With minimal disturbance, a single immisible fluid droplet will be introduced into the host fluid. As predicted by existing theory, the droplet will move in the direction of higher temperature due to tangential shear stresses created by surface tension variations along the periphery of the droplet.
