Measures of measurement adequacyThe adequacy of a measurement instrument is often characterized in terms of the precision, accuracy, and confidence that can be assigned to the measurements that it produces. The accuracy of the measurement may be defined as the size of the difference between the true and measured values. The precision of the system over a large number of measurements may be defined in terms of the sample standarad deviation. The confidence in an interval-values measurement may be defined as the probability that this interval contains the true value. These concepts are discussed in terms of their mathematical solutions.
