Report from Orroral

The National Mapping (Natmap) laser ranging system (NLRS) at Orroral, Australia, designed for satellite and lunar ranging is described. The system is well connected to Doppler, VLBI, and astrometric sites located nearby (the 65-m antenna at Tidbinbilla DSCC 42/43, the Mount Stromlo Photographic Zenith Tube, and the old SAO laser cite) and is now producing results from Lageos and the moon. The operational features of the system's telescope are described together with the principal operating characteristics of the satellite and the lunar ranging. Special consideration is given to the system's errors. The Orroral site is being considered as a base site for GPS programs.
