Mission Peculiar Equipment Support Structure: A platform for space constructionThe Space Shuttle requires carriers to support payloads in the cargo bay. As a result, the Mission Peculiar Equipment Support Structure (MPESS) was designed to carry partial payloads aboard the shuttle. The efforts to customize the MPESS for the Experimental Assembly of Structure in EVA (EASE) and Assembly Concept for Construction of Erectable Space Structure (ACCESS) experiments are summarized.
