The scatterometer for DIRBEA scatterometer for monitoring the performance degradation of an infrared instrument in the Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment (DIRBE) due to contamination of the primary mirror is described. The scatterometer monitors the scattered light from an off-axis internal source to provide a measure of the integrity of the optical system. Preliminary results indicate that the measured BRDF of the primary mirror is two orders of magnitude worse than the specification, and thus may be unacceptable.
