The Voyager-2 Neptune encounter

Aspects of the encounter of Voyager 2 with Neptune which will occur during the summer of 1989 are discussed. The major scientific objectives and the resulting trajectory characteristics are reviewed. The technological requirements for transmitting the scientific data to earth are addressed, and the hardware and software aboard the satellite which will accomplish the transmission are described.
