Nonequilibrium effects for hypersonic transitional flows using continuum approachA new thermochemical nonequilibrium formulation for hypersonic transitional flows of air is presented. Air is assumed to have five chemical species (N2, O2, NO, N, O) and three temperatures corresponding to the translational, rotational, and vibrational modes of energy. In the present study, the no-slip boundary conditions are replaced by slip boundary conditions to extend the range of the Navier-Stokes equations to high-speed low-density flows.
