Compensating For Doppler Shift In Laser InstrumentationElectronic tuning system continually adjusts frequency of tunable diode laser to compensate for Doppler shift caused by motion of transmitter or receiver containing laser. Doppler-shift-compensating system intended primarily for use in transmitter or receiver of laser remote-sensing or communication system to keep frequency of received signal within frequency range of narrow-band-pass filter. By use of narrow-band filter (instead of wide-band filter required in absence of Doppler compensation), signal-to-noise ratio of laser system increased. Thus, less-powerful transmitter usable.
