Probabilistic methods for robot motion determinationThe outline of a research effort in probabilistic approaches to robot motion determination is presented. A heuristic path planner that has met with considerable success in the JPL telerobot testbed is presented together with an interpretation of its performance. The relevance of techniques from stochastic geometry and stochastic diffusion is addressed, as is the possibility of using sensor data directly in the motion determination process.
