Coupled fluid-thermal-structural analysis for aerodynamically heated structuresA finite element approach for integrated fluid-thermal-structural analysis of aerodynamically heated structures is described. The approach is used to solve: (1) the Navier-Stokes equations for the aerodynamic flow, (2) the energy equation of the structure for the temperature response, and (3) the quasi-static equilibrium equations of the structure for the structural response. Coupling between the three disciplines is demonstrated using two applications: Mach 7 flow over a panel and Mach 8 shock-shock interference on a cylinder.
