Experimental tests of range-profiling algorithmsThe natural tendency in the design of a spaceborne weather radar is to select frequencies at 10 GHz or higher. A major disadvantage of this approach is that increased attenuation limits the maximum rain rate that can be accurately estimated. Here, a way to lessen this problem is suggested which uses estimates of path attenuation to reconstruct a profile of the rain rate.
