An experimental investigation of delamination buckling and growthAn experimental investigation of delamination buckling and growth in compression loaded composite laminates is described. Compression tests were conducted on impact damaged laminates and laminates containing preimplanted delaminations. These tests were performed utilizing a fixture designed to prevent global buckling. The results of this study indicate that considerations in addition to initial defect geometry influence the shape of the boundary of the buckled region. Further, idealized delamination buckling from preimplanted delaminations may occur quite differently than in the case of an impact damaged laminate. The growth of a delamination following buckling may follow an irregular path and may involve the delamination growing into different interfaces.
