Orogeny and large-scale strike-slip faulting on Venus - Tectonic evolution of Maxwell MontesComplementary data sets from the Arecibo and Venera 15/16 imaging radar systems are used here to produce geologic and structural maps of the Maxwell Montes, a region of large-scale strike-slip faulting on Venus. The maps are compared with the characteristics of other linear mountain belts. The tectonic deformation occurring in Maxwell Montes is assessed, identifying the structural elements, their tectonic origin, and their sequence. A geologic and tectonic chronology is developed and a model for the origin and evolution of Maxwell Montes is proposed.
