Analytical and experimental studies on creep behavior of polymeric matrix compositesThe creep behavior of graphite/epoxy composites is studied both analytically and experimentally. In the analytical study, a special finite element procedure was developed for the accurate and efficient analysis of creep response in anisotropic materials. This procedure was used to study the stress and strain distributions and histories in composite laminates containing circular holes. In the experimental study, creep tests were performed to investigate the time-dependent response of graphite/epoxy composites at elevated temperature. The moire interferometry technique was employed to determine the deformation histories in notched composites. The experimental results were compared with the analytical predictions and good agreement was observed.
