Low-speed experiments - Requirements for stability measurementsThe sources of error that may occur in low-speed stability and transition experiments due to sensitivity to environmental conditions are addressed. The format for the discussion is a problem statement followed by a solution. Global and local pressure gradients are considered, along with various distances from the disturbance source and impure disturbance input to the boundary layer. Three-dimensional distortion of the basic state is analyzed as well as freestream-disturbance, nonparallel, and smoke-wire effects. Crossflow roughness and probe and traverse interference are also covered.
