Optical studies of proto-planetary nebulaeA group of cool protoplanetary nebulae (PPN) candidates with bright optical counterparts have been studied. IRAS and ground-based data have been combined for about a dozen of these, and double-peaked flux distribution have been found and fitted with a PPN model. They each possess the spectral types expected for objects in this evolutionary phase. For an additional dozen new, noncataloged sources under similar study, carbon-rich spectra confirms their post-AGB nature.
