Spatial variability of outgoing longwave radiationSpatial distributions of day-to-day variations in the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) are quantified by examining spatial variations in daily OLR data obtained from the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment scanning radiometer aboard the NOAA-9 meteorological satellite, in the form of daily maps and monthly radiation maps at 2.5 deg latitude-longitude scale. The results show that the variations of OLR during a month are markedly greater in the subtropics than they are in the mid and high altitudes. Results for October 1985 are presented.
