Probing Composites With Integrated Polar BackscatterIntegrated polar backscatter (IPB) is technique wherein ultrasonic probe signal incident upon part at non-normal angle of incidence and resulting scattered ultrasonic signal measured and integrated to produce single NDE quantity. Method used to detect and evaluate quantitatively internal conditions of composite materials. One evaluates internal structure of fiber composite and detects such structural defects as those caused by broken fibers, porosity, and inclusions.
