Equatorial and eastern boundary current variability in the North and South Pacific OceansThe overall objective of our investigation within the TOPEX/POSEIDON project is to describe the large-scale and mesoscale circulation of the upper ocean in the eastern North and South Pacific Oceans. We also wish to understand the relation between these currents and local and distant wind forcing. In this contest, 'large scale' refers to basin-scale fluctuations at annual and interannual time scales; 'mesoscale' refers to variability with periods less than 60 days, regardless of the spatial scale.
