Multilevel optimization using a continuum model for structuresThe new concept of using a continuum model in the multilevel decomposition of structural optimization problems is presented. The practicality of this concept is demonstrated by application in a scheme for the optimization of beam-like space structures. This scheme is tested against traditional optimization procedures for savings in computational cost. Results from both optimization methods are presented for comparison.
