Nonlocal thermodynamic equilibrium effects of vibrationally excited NOResults are presented of a laboratory investigation of the vibrational distribution of NO produced in the reaction between O(3P) and NO2(X 2A1). To minimize vibrational quenching, the experiments were performed in a fast-flow system. The production of NO(X) radicals was monitored with laser-induced fluorescence. It was found that the NO vibrational population ratio measured correlates well with the earlier observation of high vibrational excitation in O2.
