New evidence favoring multilevel decomposition and optimizationA new multilevel optimization technique based on a global sensitivity matrix which uses behavior variables in addition to design variables and constraints to decompose the problem is proposed. The technique simplifies the decomposition of the design problem and the programming task and improves the convergence speed of multilevel optimization compared to conventional optimization. The technique is particularly well suited to problems with large numbers of design variables and with computationally expensive constraints.
