Optical Chopper Assembly for the Mars ObserverThis paper describes the Honeywell-developed Optical Chopper Assembly (OCA), a component of Mars Observer spacecraft's Pressure Modulator Infrared Radiometer (PMIRR) science experiment, which will map the Martian atmosphere during 1993 to 1995. The OCA is unique because of its constant accurate rotational speed, low electrical power consumption, and long-life requirements. These strict and demanding requirements were achieved by use of a number of novel approaches.
