Development of composite carrythrough bulkheadA structural development program was recently completed in which the weight and fatigue advantages of an all composite major load carrying bulkhead was successfully demonstrated. Fabrication of a full scale article, including static and fatigue testing of the carry-through beam portion verified the producibility, strength and durability of this design, thereby presenting the opportunity for use on aircraft upgrades and new aircraft. A 15% weight saving is achievable and, more importantly, the fatigue problems that normally plague metal bulkheads are virtually eliminated.
