X-ray emission from supergiant shells in the LMCThe mosaics of pointed Rosat Position Sensitive Proportional Counter (PSPC) observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) were used to study the X-ray characteristics of supergiant shells. Diffuse soft X-ray emission above the background was detected in all of the well-defined supergiant shells. The large range of X-ray properties can be explained by differential obscuration, temperature density differences, and localized heating by supernova remnants.
