Stagnation-Point Shielding by Melting and VaporizationAn approximate theoretical analysis was made of the shielding mechanism whereby the rate of heat transfer to the forward stagnation point of blunt bodies is reduced by melting and evaporation. General qualitative results are given and a numerical example, the melting and evaporation of ice, is presented and discussed in detail.
