Ultracompact High-Speed Electro-Optic Switch

We describe a coherent optical logic element susceptible of fabrication in an array format at optical wavelength-packing densities. The element offers large dynamic range, temporal storage of optical pulses, and precise clocking with no pulse loss or distortion. One- and two-pulse strategies and phase-control issues are examined.
