In Search of an OptoretinogramA sensitive apparatus was constructed to measure the infrared reflectance of human retinas in vivo. Changes in the light scattering properties of rod outer segments have been observed both in excised retinas and photoreceptor suspensions, motivating the present work. Unlike results of vitro studies, no visually evoked changes were observed, despite a very low noise level. Methods for improving the technique using modem developments in CCD cameras are discussed.
