Gamma-Ray BurstsGamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are now known to be the most powerful explosions in the Universe. I will summarize the history of observations of GRBs, and how we came to know that the sources are so distant. I will also give an overview of the most prominent theories as to the cause of bursts.
