Composites for Lighter StructuresPMR-15, a high temperature polyimide resin, was developed at Lewis in response to the need for a resin capable of withstanding higher temperatures. This was necessary to expand composite applications into high temperature situations. When graphite fiber was impregnated with the resin, the lighter material was used by General Electric Company to replace titanium in aircraft engine ducts. The PMR formula is currently available commercially and a wide range of applications is expected.
