Application of Optimized Explicit Schemes to Category 1, Problem 1This paper describes the application of optimized explicit schemes to category 1, problem 1 of the Fourth CAA Workshop. The schemes used, i.e. finite difference, low storage Runge-Kutta algorithm and selective filters removing grid-to-grid oscillations, were designed to be low dissipative and low dispersive for wave number up to about k∆x = π /2 corresponding to four point per wavelength. Their ability to compute long-range propagation of high-frequency disturbances is illustrated by the numerical solutions of the problem.
