Chapter 16 - Aircraft External NoiseThis Section presents, in summary form, the typical elements required to conduct noise testing and to evaluate the data derived from this testing. Review of this Section will enable the test engineers to familiarize themselves with the necessary steps leading to the final indisputable noise level certification for the aircraft in question. AGARDograph 300, Volume 9 "Aircraft Exterior Noise Measurement and Analysis Techniques" presents, in detail, the information that is summarized here and should be consulted by those requiring detailed information. The following paragraphs will acquaint the reader with the purpose of noise testing of civil aircraft, how the test vehicle is evaluated, and what the products of this type of testing are. (At the moment there are no legal aircraft noise limits levied on military aircraft.)
