Modeling of Unit-Cells With Z-Pins Using FLASH: Pre-Processing and Post ProcessingAlthough the toughening properties of stitches, z-pins and similar structures have been studied extensively, investigations on the effect of z-pins on the in-plane properties of laminates are limited. A brief summary on the effect of z-pins on the in-plane tensile and compressive properties of composite laminates is presented together with a concise introduction into the finite element code FLASH. The remainder of the report illustrates the modeling aspect of unit cells with z-pins in FLASH and focuses on input and output data as well as post-processing of results.
