Operational Influence on Thermal Behavior of High-Speed Helical Gear TrainsAn experimental effort has been conducted on an aerospace-quality helical gear train to investigate the thermal behavior of the gear system as many important operational conditions were varied. Drive system performance measurements were made at varying speeds and loads (to 5,000 hp and 15,000 rpm). Also, an analytical effort was undertaken for comparison to the measured results. The influence of the various loss mechanisms from the analysis for this high speed helical gear train gearbox will be presented and compared to the experimental results.
