EXOS and the Evolution of WINCSEXOS is the charged-particle spectrometer on EXOCUBE that will measure the H/He/O and H+ /He+ /0+ densities and temperatures in the exosphere. Its basic approach is based on WINCS; however, EXOS gave the impetus for improvements that led to the 2nd generation WINCS. Beginning with a brief description of the WINCS methodology for ionosphere-thermosphere measurements, lessons learned from the first generation WINCS are summarized as introduction to the design of EXOS. The EXOS design is then presented and discussed.
