Reduced Dependence on Redundant Fasteners in Secondary-Bonded Composite Structures Using Modified Epoxy Matrix ResinsThis report describes a sub-set of over 20 experiments conducted to optimize materials and processes to maximize mechanical properties of the assembled joint. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy was used to measure the chemical state of the ER surface after primary cure. Laminates were fabricated with various HR and ER layer thicknesses, inspected using ultrasonic testing, and mechanically tested to measure fracture toughness.
