The NASA Standard for Models and Simulations: Deployment ExperienceNASA issued a formal standard for models and simulations?NASA-STD-7009?in July 2008. This presentation will review the background and key features of this standard, and then summarize the experiences since then in the deployment of this standard in the Agency. The driving forces behind the standard were the recommendations of several external advisory groups and the trend towards increased reliance upon models and simulations for the verification of complex systems that cannot be tested on the ground. The standard consists of several dozen requirements and of a scale to assist the decision maker in assessing the credibility of the simulation results that are informing his decision.
