Space-based Lidar Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere, Ocean and Land SurfaceThis talk will introduce recent scientific findings using space based atmosphere/ocean profiling lidar (CALIPSO) observations. The focus of the talk includes physics explanation of the lidar measurements and preliminary results of: 1. global cloud climatology, such as cloud phase and water cloud microphysical properties; 2. aerosol climatology using combined CALIPSO ocean surface return and AMSR-E sea surface wind; 3. global sea surface wind statistics at CALIPSO footprint (90 meter), and its applications in estimating air-sea turbulence transfer velocity; 4. ocean sub-surface particulate backscatter statistics; 5. land and vegetation canopy studies.
